Workshops on Development of Curriculum of  PhD Programme

The second workshop on the development of  PhD curriculum programme was held at the university of  Dsm  on 23rd to 25th September 2015. The first workshop on development of PhD curriculum was held at University of Rwanda in July 2015. The workshop was proceeded by one day meeting for interview and selection of PhD candidates on 26th September 2015.

The workshop was attended by 27 participants including  3 participants from Sweden, 5 lecturers from Makerere University, 1 lecturer from  University of Rwanda, 1 lecturer  from AIMS Tanzania , 1 lecturer from DUCE and 16 staff from Maths depart UDSM.

Structure of the programme was discussed and list of courses were listed. Few course outlines were developed before finishing the workshop. Other lists of courses were distributed among the participants to develop the course outlines.

The third workshop on development of PhD curriculum was held at Makerere University on October 2015.

The fourth workshop was held in Sweden 10th to 16th November 2015. The workshop  in Sweden was  to involve more Swedish partners .

The workshop in Sweden was attended by 8 participants including  2 participants from University of Dar es Salaam,  3 lecturers from Makerere University, 4 lecturer from  Swedish Universities.

Workshops on Review of M.Sc. Curricula Programme

Joint workshop on the review of MSC curricula was held in Arusha at Arusha Technical College from 25th to 29th September 2016. Five curricula programmes were reviewed namely;

  1. Master of Science in Mathematical Modeling  for University of Dar Es Salaam
  2. Master of Science in Mathematics for University of Dar Es Salaam
  3. Master of Science in Applied Mathematics for University of Rwanda
  4. Master of Science in Mathematical Modeling  for Makerere University
  5. Master of Science in Mathematics for Makerere University

 

The workshop comprised of a diverse group of Mathematicians from six countries namely; Tanzania (8 participants), Uganda (6 participants), Rwanda (2 participants), Mozambique (1 participant), Ethiopia (1 participant) and Sweden (2 participants).

The goals of the workshop were to:

  1. Review the Mathematics M.Sc. Programmes for the three regional Sida supported Universities (Dar es Salaam, Makerere and Rwanda).
  2. Harmonize the M.Sc. Programmes for the three department  supported by Sida.

This was the critical time for the development of Mathematics in the region.  The three universities aimed to review their individual masters programmes to come up  with a programme with a standard acceptable to all the Universities and the international community.

Annual Planning for 2016/2017

Annual Planning  Workshop of Sida Mathematics project  for Makerere University, University of Rwanda and University of Dar es Salaam which was held in Sweden from 7th – 12th March 2016. The three departments are supported by Sida bilateral programme.

Unfortunately, participants from University of Rwanda for logistic reason were unable to attend. Other participants were:

  7. Prof. Sergei Silvestrov (,Mälardalen University)
  8. Prof. Martin Singull (Linköping University).
