The Mathematical Association of Tanzania (MAT/CHAHITA) is a non-profit voluntary professional organization established by Mathematicians in January 1966 at department of Mathematics, University of Dar Es salaam. The founders were Mathematics teachers from Primary and Secondary Schools, college’s tutors and University lecturers. The primary objective of the association is to unite Mathematicians towards improvement of Mathematics education in Tanzania. It involves mostly teachers from primary and secondary schools, colleges and higher learning institutions. Students in each level are also involved in the association.
The specific objectives of the Association are:
i) To effect improvements in the teaching of mathematics and its applications
ii) To provide means of communication for this purpose
iii) To take such measures as may appear expedient to advance the view of the Association on any question affecting the teaching and learning of mathematics and its applications
In implementing its objectives, MAT collaborates with other stake holders and government institutions that are dealing with provision of education in the Country.
